Adds the heart-rate-adjusted estimate (Moran 1995).

Enter your values to see the result.

MAP ≈ DBP + (SBP − DBP) ÷ 3. A MAP of at least 65 mmHg is the usual target in septic shock. For education and clinical decision support only. Results do not replace professional judgment, local protocols or the product information, so always verify doses and values before acting on them.

How to use the Mean Arterial Pressure Calculator

MAP and pulse pressure from systolic and diastolic blood pressure.

  1. 1 Enter systolic and diastolic blood pressure.
  2. 2 Optionally add the heart rate.
  3. 3 Read the MAP and pulse pressure.

Example and practical tips

A blood pressure of 120/80 mmHg gives a MAP of 93 mmHg and a pulse pressure of 40 mmHg.

Frequently asked questions

What MAP is too low?

Below about 65 mmHg organs may not be perfused well; 65 mmHg is the usual target in septic shock.

Why is MAP closer to diastolic pressure?

The heart spends about two thirds of each beat in diastole, so the average pressure sits nearer the diastolic value.
