How to use the Domain Age Checker
The domain age checker shows when a domain name was first registered and how old it is in years, months and days. It also shows the expiry date, when the record was last changed, the registrar, the domain status codes and the name servers. The data comes from RDAP, the modern replacement for WHOIS that domain registries use to publish registration records, so you see the same dates the registry holds.
- 1 Type a domain such as example.com, or paste a full URL. The tool removes https://, www. and any page path for you.
- 2 Click Check age. The tool asks the registry for that domain extension for its public RDAP record.
- 3 Read the age, registration and expiry dates, registrar, status and name servers. Check another domain to compare them.
Example and practical tips
Before buying an expired or second-hand domain, check its age: a domain registered in 2009 with a continuous history is usually a better buy than one that dropped and was re-registered last month. SEO teams also compare the ages of competitor domains, and buyers check the expiry date to see how soon a domain must be renewed.
Frequently asked questions
Where does the registration date come from?
From the domain registry's public RDAP record, the official successor to WHOIS. The date is when the current registration was created. If a domain expired and was registered again, the age starts from the new registration, not the first time the name was ever used.
Why are some details missing?
Registries decide what to publish. Some country-code extensions do not share registration dates or registrar names through RDAP, and privacy rules hide owner contact details for most domains. The tool shows "Not published" when a field is not available.
Does domain age affect SEO?
Google has said that domain age by itself is not a ranking factor. An older domain may have more backlinks and history, which do matter, but a new domain with great content can still rank well.
Can I check subdomains?
Registration records exist only for registered domains. Enter the main domain, for example example.co.uk rather than shop.example.co.uk.
