How to use the IPv6 to IPv4 Converter
Extract the IPv4 address embedded in a mapped, compatible, 6to4 or NAT64 IPv6 address.
- 1 Paste one IPv6 address per line.
- 2 Each line shows the embedded IPv4 address and the format it was found in.
- 3 Addresses without an embedded IPv4 address are labelled with their address type instead.
Example and practical tips
A web server log entry of ::ffff:203.0.113.5 is the IPv4 client 203.0.113.5. The Teredo address 2001:0:4136:e378:8000:63bf:3fff:fdd2 reveals the client 192.0.2.45 on port 40000.
Frequently asked questions
Can every IPv6 address be converted?
No. Most IPv6 addresses are native and contain no IPv4 address; only the transition formats embed one.
What is Teredo?
An old tunnelling technology that carried IPv6 over IPv4 through NAT, encoding the server and an obfuscated client address and port.
