How to use the CSS Gradient Generator

Build a linear, radial or conic gradient with editable color stops.

  1. 1 Choose Type and set Angle where applicable.
  2. 2 Add or edit color stops and adjust their positions, or try Random gradient.
  3. 3 Copy the generated CSS and apply it to your target element.

Example and practical tips

Create a two-color linear gradient for a banner and move the stops to control where the transition occurs.

Choose a gradient for the layout

Use a linear gradient for a directional transition, a radial gradient for a transition outward from a center, or a conic gradient for colors that turn around a center. The effect fills the element rather than supplying an image with its own dimensions.

Apply and test the CSS

Paste the output into the target CSS rule and give the element a visible width and height. Add a solid background color as a fallback. Check the page at narrow and wide widths, because the area behind text can change with the layout.

Frequently asked questions

Does this generate an image file?

The main output is CSS that the browser renders, not a bitmap export.

Will text remain readable over the gradient?

Check contrast across every area behind the text; readability can vary as the background color changes.
