How to use Adjusted Body Weight Calculator

  1. Choose sex and enter height and actual weight.
  2. Pick the adjustment factor (0.4 is most common).
  3. Read the ideal, adjusted and lean body weights.

Worked example

A man 175 cm tall weighing 110 kg has an ideal body weight of 70.5 kg and an adjusted body weight of 86.3 kg.

When is adjusted body weight used?

For drugs that distribute partly into fat, such as aminoglycosides, and for Cockcroft–Gault in obesity. Follow each drug’s guidance.

What is lean body weight?

The weight without fat, estimated with the Janmahasatian formula. It is used for some anesthetic drugs.
