How to Use Cholesterol Unit Converter

Convert total, LDL, HDL and non-HDL cholesterol and triglycerides between mg/dL and mmol/L with the correct factor for each lipid.

About this tool

Convert cholesterol and triglycerides between mg/dL and mmol/L.

How to use Cholesterol Unit Converter

  1. Choose the lipid: total, LDL, HDL, non-HDL cholesterol or triglycerides.
  2. Choose the direction of conversion.
  3. Enter the value and read the result.

Worked example

Total cholesterol of 200 mg/dL is 5.17 mmol/L, while triglycerides of 150 mg/dL are 1.69 mmol/L.

Why is the triglyceride factor different?

Conversion depends on molecular weight. Triglycerides are heavier than cholesterol, so 1 mmol/L equals 88.57 mg/dL rather than 38.67.

Why do reference ranges differ between labs?

Ranges depend on the analyzer, method and population. Always compare your result with the range printed on your own lab report.
