About this tool
The DNS lookup tool shows the public DNS records of any domain: A and AAAA records for its IP addresses, CNAME aliases, MX mail servers, NS name servers, TXT records such as SPF and domain verification, SOA and CAA records. Enter an IP address instead to do a reverse (PTR) lookup. Queries go through Cloudflare's secure DNS-over-HTTPS resolver.
How to use DNS Lookup
- Enter a domain name, or an IP address for a reverse lookup.
- Choose a record type, or "All common" to see everything at once.
- Click Look up and review each record's value and TTL.
Worked example
After changing mail providers, look up the MX records of your domain to confirm they point to the new servers, and check the TXT records for the new SPF entry.
Why do my DNS changes not show yet?
Resolvers cache records for their TTL (time to live). Changes can take from a few minutes up to the old TTL, sometimes 24 to 48 hours, to appear everywhere.
What is an MX record?
It tells other mail servers where to deliver email for your domain. Lower priority numbers are tried first.
What is a TXT record used for?
TXT records hold text such as SPF, DKIM and DMARC email authentication and ownership verification codes for services like Google.
