How to Use Image Compressor

Compress images to JPG or WebP in your browser. Adjust quality, limit width and compare file sizes before downloading your compressed image.

About this tool

Reduce image file size while keeping visual quality.

How to use Image Compressor

  1. Choose an image from your device. The Original counter shows its file size.
  2. Choose JPG or WEBP, then adjust Quality while inspecting the preview. Optionally enter a Max width to reduce dimensions while keeping proportions.
  3. Compare Original and Compressed sizes. When the preview is acceptable, click Download compressed image.

Worked example

For a 2400-pixel-wide photo needed at 1200 pixels, set Max width to 1200 and compare the JPG and WebP results. The best quality setting depends on the image; inspect text and fine edges before downloading.

Compress an image to WebP

Select WEBP, adjust Quality and compare the compressed size with the original. Set Max width if the image is wider than needed. This compressor uses a white background, so choose the image converter for transparent graphics.

Compress for an upload limit

Choose JPG or WebP, reduce an unnecessarily large width and compare the downloaded size with the limit. Inspect small text and edges before accepting a lower quality setting.

Compression does not guarantee unchanged quality

The JPG and WebP quality controls can discard image detail. Work from the original for each attempt, and use a different workflow if you must preserve a transparent PNG or animation.

Can I compress an image to an exact KB size?

There is no target file-size control. Adjust quality and maximum width until the displayed compressed size meets your requirement. Some images may not become smaller without a visible quality change.

Will a transparent background stay transparent?

No. This compressor draws the image onto a white background before encoding, including WebP output. Use the image converter or resizer with a transparency-supporting output when transparency matters.

Does this change my original file?

No. Processing happens in your browser and the download is a separate file. Keep the original if you may need a higher-quality version later.

Image processing on your device

Image compression runs in your browser. The selected file is not uploaded by this tool.
