About this tool
Dates are written differently around the world: 09/26/2026 in the US, 26/09/2026 in the UK and Pakistan, and 2026/09/26 in Japan. This tool shows any date and time in short, long and full formats for over 30 locales, from English and Urdu to Arabic, Chinese and German, plus developer formats like ISO 8601, RFC 2822 and Unix timestamps.
How to use Localized Date Formats
- Pick a date and time, or click Use current time.
- Copy a standard format like ISO 8601 with one click.
- Filter the table by language or country to see how each locale writes the date.
Worked example
September 26, 2026 is 9/26/26 in en-US, 26/09/2026 in en-GB, 26.09.26 in de-DE and 2026/09/26 in ja-JP. For data exchange, use ISO 8601: 2026-09-26.
Avoid ambiguous numeric dates
03/04/2026 can be read as March 4 or April 3. Include the month name for readers, or use 2026-04-03 when you mean April 3 in an ISO-style calendar date.
Find a locale’s actual output
Choose the date, then filter the locale table by language or country. Copy the displayed value. Browser locale data and calendar conventions can affect the output; do not assume all regional formats are identical.
Which date format should I use in software?
Use ISO 8601 (YYYY-MM-DD, with a time zone offset for times). It is unambiguous and sorts correctly as text.
Why is 03/04/2026 ambiguous?
It means March 4 in the US but April 3 in most other countries. Writing the month as a word or using ISO 8601 avoids confusion.
Where do these formats come from?
Your browser formats the dates with the Unicode CLDR locale data, the same data used by operating systems and most apps.
