How to Use MAC Address Generator

Generate random MAC addresses in colon, hyphen, Cisco or plain format, with an optional vendor prefix and safe locally administered addresses for VMs.

About this tool

Generate random MAC addresses in any format, with optional vendor prefix.

How to use MAC Address Generator

  1. Choose how many addresses you need and the format.
  2. Optionally enter a vendor prefix, and choose locally administered, multicast and uppercase options.
  3. Click Generate and copy the list.

Worked example

For five virtual machines on one network, generate five locally administered addresses so they cannot clash with real hardware addresses.

What does locally administered mean?

The second-lowest bit of the first byte marks an address as assigned locally rather than by a manufacturer, so it never collides with real vendor addresses.

Are the addresses random?

Yes. They use your browser’s cryptographic random number generator.
