How to Use Password Strength Checker

Test how strong a password is and how long it could take to crack. Detects common passwords, words, dates and keyboard patterns, entirely in your browser.

About this tool

Test how strong a password is and how long it would take to crack, privately in your browser.

How to use Password Strength Checker

  1. Type a password. It never leaves your device.
  2. Read the strength rating, entropy and estimated crack times for four attack speeds.
  3. Fix the issues listed, such as common words, sequences or a short length.

Worked example

P@ssw0rd2024 is rated weak: the look-alike symbols do not hide “password”, and the year is easy to guess. A passphrase of four random words is both stronger and easier to remember.

Is my password sent anywhere?

No. The check runs entirely in your browser; nothing is sent, stored or logged.

What makes a password strong?

Length and unpredictability. Use 12 or more characters, avoid real words and personal details, and use a password manager to create and remember unique passwords.
