About this tool
The popup window generator writes the code for a link that opens a page in a new browser window of a set size, for example for a help page, a chat window or a print preview. Choose the width and height, center it on the screen or set its position, and pick window features. The link still works as a normal link if JavaScript is disabled.
How to use Popup Window Generator
- Enter the page address, link text and a window name.
- Set the width, height and position, and choose the window features.
- Copy the HTML, and click "Open test popup" to try it.
Worked example
A "Live help" link can open a 600 × 450 window centered on screen, keeping the main page open behind it.
Will popup blockers stop it?
Browsers allow popups opened by a click, so a link like this usually works. Popups opened automatically without a click are blocked.
Why are some features ignored?
Modern browsers ignore options like hiding the address bar for security, and some users set new windows to open as tabs.
Does it work without JavaScript?
Yes. The link has a normal href, so without JavaScript it opens the page in the same way as any link.
