How to Use Slope Calculator

Find the slope between two points, plus the line equation y = mx + b, angle, grade, distance, midpoint and perpendicular slope, step by step.

About this tool

Find the slope, angle, distance and line equation from two points.

How to use Slope Calculator

  1. Enter x₁ and y₁ for the first point.
  2. Enter x₂ and y₂ for the second point.
  3. Read the slope, equation and other results.

Worked example

Points (1, 2) and (4, 11) give a slope of 3 and the line y = 3x − 1, rising at an angle of about 71.6°.

What does slope mean?

The change in y for each step of 1 in x: rise divided by run.

What is an undefined slope?

A vertical line has zero run, so its slope is undefined; its equation is x = constant.
