Worked example

A 12 × 10 ft bedroom is 120 sq ft; flooring at 4 per sq ft costs about 480.

Feet and inches conversion

Convert inches to feet by dividing by 12. A room measuring 12 ft 6 in by 10 ft has an area of 12.5 × 10 = 125 square feet.

Irregular rooms and purchasing allowances

Split an L-shaped room into non-overlapping rectangles and add their areas. Keep measured area separate from any allowance for material cuts or waste.

How do I measure an L-shaped room?

Split it into two rectangles and enter both; the areas are added.

How many square feet are in a square meter?
