About this tool
Percent-encode or decode URLs and query string values.
How to use URL Encoder / Decoder
- Select Encode or Decode and paste the value you want to convert.
- Choose Encode everything for an individual parameter value, or Keep URL structure for a complete address whose separators should remain intact.
- Copy the result and check it in the destination system. Avoid encoding an already encoded value unless double encoding is required.
Worked example
In component mode, red & blue becomes red%20%26%20blue. Encoding the ampersand prevents it from being interpreted as a separator when the result is used as one query parameter value.
Which mode should I choose for a search query?
Use component mode for the value of a query parameter, such as a search phrase. Full-URL mode preserves URL separators and is not a substitute for encoding each parameter value.
Why does decoding fail?
Malformed percent escapes or invalid encoded character sequences can cause an error. Check that the input was copied completely and is actually URL-encoded text.
How are plus signs decoded?
Component decoding treats a plus sign as a space. To represent a literal plus in an encoded parameter, use %2B. Full-URL decoding uses the URL mode and does not apply that plus-to-space conversion.
