How to use the Drug Dose Calculator

Weight-based (mg/kg) and BSA-based (mg/m²) doses with volume to give.

  1. 1 Choose the dosing basis and enter the prescribed dose per dose or per day.
  2. 2 Enter weight (and height for mg/m²) and doses per day.
  3. 3 Add the maximum dose and concentration to get the capped dose and volume.

Example and practical tips

15 mg/kg for a 20 kg child is 300 mg per dose; with a 120 mg/5 mL suspension that is 12.5 mL.

Frequently asked questions

Per dose or per day?

Prescriptions give either. Choose “per day” when the total daily dose is divided into several doses.

Why add a maximum dose?

Weight-based doses can exceed adult maximums in heavier patients. The cap keeps the dose within the limit.

Can I use this to make treatment decisions?

It supports education and clinical decision-making but does not replace clinical judgment, local protocols or product information. Always double-check results.
