How to use Markup Calculator

  1. Choose whether to find the selling price or the markup.
  2. Enter the cost and the markup or selling price.
  3. Read the result, profit and margin.

Worked example

A cost of 40 with a 50% markup gives a price of 60, a profit of 20 and a margin of 33.3%.

What is the difference between markup and margin?

Markup is profit as a share of cost; margin is profit as a share of price. A 50% markup is a 33.3% margin.

Which should I use for pricing?

Either works if you are consistent; retailers often talk in margins and suppliers in markups.
