About this tool

Find how many tiles and boxes you need for a floor or wall, with waste.

How to use Tile Calculator

  1. Enter the room length and width.
  2. Enter the tile size, grout gap and tiles per box.
  3. Add waste and read the tiles and boxes needed.

Worked example

A 12 × 10 ft kitchen with 12 × 24 in tiles needs about 67 tiles, or 9 boxes of 8, including 10% waste.

How much extra tile should I buy?

10% for straight layouts and 15% for diagonal or herringbone, plus a box to keep for repairs.

Does grout width matter?

Slightly. Wider joints mean fewer tiles, and the calculator includes the gap.
